Does this go against Copyright Images?

So I wanted to make a sprite (don't know how to make one from scratch). So I took sprites from Fire Emblem and mixed and match. Is it OK to make a game and use those characters and call them mine, or are those images still protected? Even though my guy looks nothing like any of theirs.
