Does the "Historical Jesus" constructed by historians reflect 1st century understanding of who Jesus was?

Perhaps God has made this for a certain reason, if people knew what Jesus looked like then most likely they would worship his figure as an idol worship. Didn't the KIng whom had Jesus crucified ask where is the man? Bring me the Carpenter! Jesus was among the audience and yet could not be recognized, obviously he wasn't dressed in a white apparel we see in other ways. There were no surnames in those times only occupational references.
