Is it appropriate for a 31 year old woman to date a 23 year old man?

I am a 31 year old woman and I was pursued by a younger man (age 23). At first I didn't take him seriously but I finally, very reluctantly, gave into going out on a date with him on the basses that he was so persistent and extremely attractive. It turns out that he seemed more mature then some of the men that I've dated that were even older then myself. He was funny and articulate, very charming and interesting ... He sparked an interest, but I have to admit I am more then just a little thrown by the age difference. What are your thoughts on women dating younger men?
